Despite not having attended art school or worked as a professional artist, Justin Honda's friends who grew up with him surfing and skating weren't taken aback when they found out he had taken up painting - Honda has always been inclined to chart his own creative course. The exhibit Poetic Nothings features pieces made from scrap wood and leftover paint that Honda had amassed over time. While viewers may interpret the artworks as an examination of abstract expressionism and an investigation of paint as a medium, Honda's intention was simply to fashion "something from nothing.
